There is no better ambassador of Kavod Charter School than one of our explorers. We’d like to introduce you to Milo, member of the 2023 class of 8th grade graduates. Milo has been with Kavod since 2014, making Kavod his school home for 9 years. Milo graciously shared some time with us to reflect upon his experience and learning at our tuition-free charter school.

Milo’s family chose Kavod for him because of our school’s strong connection to the Hebrew community both locally and globally. With language a central component of our program, Milo says he is grateful for the opportunity to learn Hebrew while in school.

Two words we love to hear: challenging and engaging. That’s how Milo describes his classes at Kavod. He credits Kavod teachers with making it easy to learn because classes were always “interesting and fun” and because they always challenged him to do and be his best. As a middle school student in our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, Milo added Spanish to his list of languages alongside classes like Language and Literature, Science, Individuals and Societies and Design.

Kavod Charter school integrates OLAM values into the daily curriculum, producing students who respect themselves, their communities and the world. Milo exemplifies our OLAM values. He believes that the OLAM values he learned at Kavod will stay with him for a lifetime, not only supporting him in high school, but as a life-long global learner, and articulate and respectful communicator.

Milo was an active member of the Band club which meets every Thursday after school to learn and play songs. If you’ve ever had a chance to read the student-created Kavod Middle School newspaper, you’ve likely seen a bit of Milo’s sense of humor on display: he was the creator of the popular comics section!

This year, our 8th grade class had the incredible opportunity to travel with classmates to Israel for a capstone trip. Milo attended and says it was his most memorable experience at Kavod and a wonderful way to close out his years at our small community school:

This was an amazing experience. We got to learn about the place that we had been studying for nine years. This trip was a life-changing experience for me, and it was amazing to go with my school.

Thank you, Milo, for being such an incredible ambassador for our school. We know you will go on to make waves in the next step of your journey.
