Our commitment to the success of the students of San Diego goes beyond the typical 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. school day. At Kavod Charter School, we provide meaningful opportunities for growth for our students from the moment students walk in the door until it’s time to go home. In addition to tuition-free rigorous academics and dual language learning, our students benefit from the strong relationships with teachers and peers that are cultivated in our safe environment during and beyond regular school hours.

Before & After School Programs

Kavod partners with Champions to provide an extension of our school day in a safe and supervised setting. From art, dramatic play, math and science to problem-solving, language, motor skills and more, qualified staff provide activities that combine fun and learning right inside our school. Students are welcome to join as early as 6:30 a.m. and stay after school until 6:00 p.m. We even offer programs during school holidays such as winter and spring break.

Field Trips

Joy in learning is a big part of our philosophy at Kavod. Each grade level participates in field trips that enhance classroom learning. From the San Diego Zoo to learning about Israeli-designed Coastal Roots Farm, we take learning outside the 4 walls of a classroom and provide lasting and meaningful learning experiences. Our middle school students also enjoy yearly field trips and the opportunity to visit Israel for our 8th grade Capstone Trip

Service Learning

La’tet (לתת) is the Hebrew verb to give, a concept which is intricately woven into our TK-8th grade curriculum. Each grade gives back to our community through a variety of age-appropriate meaningful projects such as a beach clean-up, making no-sew blankets for people in need or running a snack shack to raise funds for the Water Project based on the book A Long Walk to Water. These actions instill in students a sense of good citizenship and the responsibility we have to our community.

Clubs

Enrichment is an important part of our well-balanced curriculum. At the elementary level, our students enjoy Hebrew art, music and dance. For the 2023-24 school year, we look forward to welcoming back more after school clubs such as cooking, soccer, chess, guitar, and coding. Our middle school students can choose from a wide variety of clubs such as: Dungeons & Dragons, Art, Non-Competitive Sports, Journalism, Band, Hebrew Support, LGBTQ+/Rainbow, Math Support and Yearbook. There is something for everyone.

Events

We never miss a chance to have fun together. Kavod staff organizes a variety of events that build community and showcase student learning. From classroom publishing parties, to Grandparents Day and our elementary school family dance, we love coming together and celebrating the work of our students. We are grateful for our active Parent Teacher Organization that provides support for our yearly fundraisers and events. It truly takes a village to raise good citizens.

Kavod Charter School aims to provide more than just a school day for the TK-8th grade students of the greater San Diego area. Join us for well-rounded learning and so much more. We are reserving seats for the 2023-24 school year now.
