You don’t get to be one of the nation’s top charter schools without incredibly talented teachers leading the way. Trevor Macleod is one of Kavod Charter School’s dedicated teachers who makes a big impact in the lives of middle schoolers. As our 7th/8th grade math teacher and 8th grade Community Service teacher for 3 years, Mr. Macleod inspires our explorers to not only love math, but to grow into responsible and respectful global citizens. Get to know Mr. Macleod, in his own words:
Who or what inspired you to become an educator?
Organizing sports leagues for the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara county gave me the passion to work with kids and young adults. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing new cultures, which fits well with teaching at a diverse school like Kavod.
How does Kavod’s mission and vision align with your personal and professional values?
I entered this career because I enjoy teaching young kids how to grow into great people. The OLAM values were created to do just that, shape and help develop great citizens for our communities.
What do you love most about your role at Kavod?
Teaching at a K-8 school enables me to work with about 100 students. A lot of middle schools would have you working with 400 or more students. Working with a select group of students enables you to get to know the students better and builds a stronger classroom and school community.
Share a favorite memory of your time at Kavod.
My favorite memories with my students at Kavod are building a Rube Goldberg machine and using trigonometry to calculate the height of rockets that were built in science class!
Tell us a bit about you.
I try to surf before work most days! I enjoy any outdoor activity like beach volleyball, diving, and pickleball. I love traveling to experience different cultures and always try to read a historical non-fiction book on the new country that I’m visiting.
Thanks Mr. Macleod! Our explorers are fortunate to have you show up and inspire them to be great each and everyday.
