One of the incredible features of our tuition-free charter school is the quality of teaching and learning that all TK-8th grade students receive. We are proud to hire and retain teachers who are not only certified by the State of California, but who also come to Kavod Charter School with multiple degrees, certifications and years of experience that align with our mission.

Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) teacher, Sierra Stulac, is no exception. Sierra has been with Kavod since 2018 and is credited with designing our TK program. Often the first person that our youngest students meet at school, Sierra creates a warm, safe and welcoming environment for her students and is often recognized by her colleagues and families for going above and beyond the expectation–even offering to teach physical education to TK and Kindergarten students in addition to her classroom responsibilities.

Sierra was recently nominated for a San Diego Charter Stars award in the category of Outstanding Teacher for her commitment to meeting the social and emotional needs of her young students. Her expertise and passion for teaching makes a world of difference to our students and families. Get to know a little more about Ms. Stulac and what drives her to be a teacher, in her own words:

When did you know you wanted to be an educator?

At a young age, I realized that I wanted to teach younger children. My passion grew as I found it very rewarding to help others feel capable and loved. I enjoy helping children see their potential and that not everyone learns the same.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

My favorite teacher was Ms. Sutherland, my 1st-grade teacher. She was so kind, encouraging, and engaging! She made everyone feel loved and supported.

How does Kavod’s mission and vision align with your personal values?

Kavod’s values align with my personal values of teaching socially responsible, respectful, global citizens. We learn to respect those around us because differences are what makes each of us unique and beautiful.

What do you love most about your role?

I absolutely love and am very passionate about teaching Transitional Kindergarten! I enjoy teaching the foundational skills but also the social and self-regulation skills needed to succeed in school and life. This age group has such a love for learning that is contagious!

What else would you like us to know about you?

I grew up near Lake Tahoe, Nevada. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Special Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. I then moved to San Diego to continue my teaching journey. I have obtained both my English Language Learners and Masters in Child Development. When not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family, traveling, hiking, running, dancing, surfing, skiing and all around enjoying the outdoors.

We are so fortunate to have Ms. Stulac in our TK classroom. We have a few spots available for the 2023-24 school year and invite you to enroll if you are interested in a high quality, tuition-free dual language education.
