Character counts. It’s the foundation for who we are and how we interact with our friends, our families, and the world around us. At Kavod Charter School, we believe the development of character and leadership in the elementary and middle school years is critical to the success of students in high school, college and beyond.

Our tuition-free charter school embraces TK-8th graders as current and future leaders, problem-solvers, and global citizens. We empower learners to stay engaged and speak up, knowing that their voices matter. Students at Kavod understand they are here to become leaders.

Here are a few ways we’re building leaders at Kavod:

OLAM Values & Advisory

We start our day off with Advisory, a mixed grade (6th-8th) homeroom class that provides a place to connect and belong and lays a foundation for trusting relationships that build character. Explorers gain academic support, lessons on our OLAM values and have opportunities to discuss the pressing issues of middle school life.

Peace Patrol

Our 4th and 5th grade aspiring ambassadors participate in Peace Patrol. This opportunity builds leadership skills as our students support the younger grade levels at recess. They aid in game supervision, support with conflict management and monitor this unstructured time to ensure students are interacting safely and respectfully.

Buddy System

Our middle school students partner with our younger explorers as part of our Buddy System. We match middle schoolers with younger elementary explorers in order to promote healthy whole school relationships in our K-8 school. Together, partners read, play games and even offer a friendly listening ear.

Ambassadors

Enhanced this school year is our middle school Ambassadors program. Interested 6th-8th graders can apply to be an Ambassador to welcome new families to our school and attend the first two days of elementary school to act as mentors for our TK-5 explorers. They’ll even offer tours of our school and informational sessions to interested students. Students also take the lead to organize events, including running concessions and managing the money from the vending machines.

8th Grade Trip

Students who have been at Kavod for at least 2 years and have proven themselves to have strong character and leadership traits may apply with Hebrew Public to attend an 8th grade Leadership Trip. Past years groups have visited Israel and this year’s group is excited to visit Washington D.C. The trip will offer an opportunity to look at our country’s leadership by visiting the House and Senate as well as all the monuments of our nation’s capital.

Most importantly, our staff models strong and positive character in all of our interactions with students. Our students can rely on us to be consistent with our expectations, compassionate with our listening skills and steadfast in our actions. It’s how we build trusting relationships that allow leaders and learners to grow in a safe environment.

Our structured and joyful middle school program is building leaders today to become the global citizens of tomorrow. There’s still time to enroll for the 2024-25 school year – get started at our enrollment page, today.
