Some people may start off their work day slowly with a cup of coffee, but Mr. MacLeod starts his morning with a sunrise surf! After teaching 7th and 8th grade Math and 8th grade Community Service at Kavod, Mr. MacLeod has stepped into a new role at Kavod Charter School: Community Engagement & Student Support Coordinator. He now spends his days finding meaningful ways to support our program, our explorers, and our families. It is a big part of what makes our top-ranked San Diego public charter school feel like a true community.
A Fresh Role With a Fresh Perspective
Mr. MacLeod has enjoyed the fun change of pace that comes with his new position. Many families know him from his math classroom, where explorers built a Rube Goldberg machine and used trigonometry to measure the height of rockets from science class. He now builds on the community work Jordyn led before him, with a focus on student support as well.
No two days look quite the same in Mr. MacLeod’s new role. One morning he may be greeting families at drop-off, and that same afternoon he may be helping a class or planning the next school event. Staying flexible and filling in wherever support is needed is exactly how he likes it.
Connecting Explorers From TK to 8th Grade
One of his favorite parts of the job is getting to know the whole Kavod community. After years with middle schoolers, he now also gets to know elementary explorers and families throughout the Kavod community. As a TK-8 school, Kavod gives students the chance to grow up alongside the same caring adults year after year. Those relationships help explorers feel known, supported, and ready to take on rigorous learning.
Students Who Step Up
Mr. MacLeod has created new ways for students to get involved and help around campus. What has impressed him most? The helpfulness, leadership, and willingness of Kavod students to step up.
That is no surprise to anyone who knows our Kavod explorers. As a former 8th grade Community Service teacher, Mr. MacLeod has seen how much these students can grow when they serve others. Every class serves the larger community, and our OLAM values remind students they can make a world of difference, starting right here at Kavod Charter School.

- He is a certified commercial diver. Before choosing education, he trained to do construction and welding underwater.
- He catches the sunrise. He fits in a morning surf before work almost every day.
- He is a new sailboat owner. His boat has opened up even more outdoor adventures.
- He studied in Thailand for a year. The experience sparked his love of traveling and learning how people live around the world.
Mr. MacLeod’s curiosity about other cultures fits right in at Kavod. He is excited to keep creating new initiatives that make a positive impact on Kavod students and families.
