Meet Jordyn Theroux, Kavod’s new Community Engagement Coordinator. Although Ms. Theroux may be new to this position at Kavod, she definitely isn’t new to the school. Jordyn joined Kavod’s tuition-free TK-8 school in August of 2021. She has been teaching first grade for over a decade – with 4 of those years being at Kavod Charter School.

We are excited to celebrate Ms. Theoroux and her new position at Kavod. Keep reading to learn more!

Tell us a bit about you

After living in Israel, I joined Kavod Charter School and feel grateful to be part of a school that truly values language, connection, and community. I had a hard time learning to read as a child, which motivated me to pursue education. I’m passionate about meeting students where they are and celebrating their individual growth.

My grandparents taught me the importance of tikkun olam (repairing the world) and it’s a value I try to live by every day. Outside of work, I enjoy running half marathons with fellow Kavod teachers, watching soccer, spending time at the beach, and continuing to improve my own Hebrew as a lifelong learner.

What makes 1st grade at Kavod so magical, and what do you love about teaching students in that grade?

What makes 1st grade at Kavod so magical is the incredible transformation the students undergo during this pivotal year. It’s where curiosity blooms into confidence, where children begin to see themselves as outstanding problem solvers, lifetime learners, global citizens, and compassionate friends. What I love most about teaching 1st grade is witnessing those lightbulb moments – when letters become words, when a child solves a problem independently, or when empathy shows up in a kind gesture. It’s a year full of wonder, excitement, and growth.

Can you share a little bit about your new role, Community Engagement Coordinator, that you are starting soon?

As the Community Engagement Coordinator at Kavod, my role is all about building meaningful connections – between families, staff, students, and our broader community. I work to create opportunities for collaboration, communication, and celebration. I’m passionate about bringing people together and creating a warm, inclusive environment where our unique school culture can thrive – rooted in respect, diversity, and a love for learning.

Why is Kavod the best school to send your child?
