At Kavod Charter School, we offer an academic program dedicated to developing socially responsible, respectful global citizens, incorporating modern Hebrew, Spanish and the International Baccalaureate. As a tuition-free public school for grades TK-8, we provide San Diego families excellence in education.

Explore 10 reasons why families choose us.

1. Academic Rigor

We call our students explorers for a reason! Our explorers are high achievers on a quest for academic excellence, and we nurture their adventurous spirit for knowledge with our rigorous curriculum. Our curriculum offers modern Hebrew language throughout the day in all subjects. Our younger students learn through a dynamic workshop model and our middle school explorers take nine rigorous classes in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP).

2. International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

Kavod is one of only four middle schools in San Diego that offers the renowned IB MYP. This advanced program provides a comprehensive education to our middle school explorers, with the goal of developing curious, knowledgeable and empathetic individuals who strive to create a better world. The curriculum is designed to foster an understanding of cultures and respect for different beliefs and values and is recognized for its ability to build critical thinking skills.

3. Dual Language Learning

We are a Seal of Biliteracy Pathway School. We deeply value bilingualism and we begin modern Hebrew with our youngest explorers alongside exposure to Spanish. Our explorers are better able to solve problems and connect concepts as they continue – and because of – their studies in English and Hebrew. In middle school, explorers have the opportunity to earn High School Credit for both Hebrew and/or Spanish.

4. Global Awareness

Kavod explorers journey through history and traditions from around the world. Together, we celebrate events like our culture fair to understand the diversity in our regional and global communities. Kavod explorers learn how interconnected we are, why appreciating different perspectives matters, and how much beauty and wisdom the world holds.

5. Respect = Appreciation

Kavod means honor and respect in Hebrew. We ensure these values are woven throughout all aspects of the school, creating a culture of honor and respect towards education and the learning process. As educators, we feel a tremendous responsibility to lead by example and show our explorers the value in respecting themselves, each other, and all communities.

6. A Culture of Service

Explorers learn to expand their view of community beyond our school and even San Diego to include the entire world. Through age-appropriate community service-learning activities integrated across the curriculum, explorers learn the values of understanding and respect for others in multiple contexts. Good Deeds Day, one of our favorite school wide events of the year, engages explorers to give back while developing compassion and empathy.

7. Robust, Well-Balanced Program

Electives, enrichments, clubs, art, and leadership are all incorporated into our day. Our daily mindfulness, meditation and yoga practices support an affirming and engaging education model for all students, while our before and after school program provides extended care in a nurturing environment.

8. Physical Education, Music & Performing Arts

At Kavod, we take PE seriously. We recently expanded our campus to include a Multipurpose Building with a brand new full gymnasium and theater. Our new gymnasium houses interscholastic sports leagues including volleyball and basketball for our 6th-8th grade students. We currently have 2 girls volleyball teams, and one of our teams won the division 3 championship! In Winter 2026, we will be expanding our sports program by adding a girls basketball team and a boys basketball team.

Physical activity helps our explorers adapt to and absorb our rigorous instruction. Instead of focusing on competition, our PE program is designed to build skill, flexibility, coordination, and confidence. Explorers practice running, gymnastics, and other skilled activities.

Music instruction at Kavod helps young language learners develop reasoning, empathy, and imagination, alongside the joy and beauty of engaging in music. Our middle school building has a brand new music room, further enhancing Kavod’s already strong music program.

Our brand new auditorium supports Kavod’s Arts Program for 3rd-8th grade students. Our recent expansion project provides Kavod Charter School students with new opportunities for athletic participation, artistic expression, and academic achievement.

9. The Kavod Team

Every member of the Kavod team commits to our philosophy that growing explorers is the center of our mission. Our top educators are passionate and devoted to help each and every student meet their full academic potential. We also provide tremendous professional support to help our teachers continually improve their skills.

10. Joy!

Joy plays an important role in our academically rigorous curriculum. When explorers love what they learn, and feel the enthusiasm from our educators, academic excellence follows. We infuse excitement and joy in our program with guest speakers, interactive learning activities, field trips, leadership camp, and so much more. Seeing the smiles on our explorers’ faces confirms that our approach to learning and growth is working.
