Not quite sure what middle school looks like at Kavod Charter School? The transition from 5th to 6th grade can feel daunting, but Kavod students who live the middle school experience reassure us this isn’t the case! Life in middle school is both exciting and rigorous which is why Kavod teachers help make this transition smooth.
Let us highlight what your child can expect making the jump from 5th to 6th grade!
Leadership
Dear 5th Graders,
You’re going to love middle school here at Kavod. In middle school, we continue to be a tight-knit school and we get to be leaders! We can apply to be an Ambassador to the younger students and attend the first two days of elementary school to act as mentors for students in TK-5th grade.
Support Systems
Dear 5th Grade Students,
Did you know once you get to middle school, we join Advisory Classes? Every morning, we start our day with Advisory, a mixed grade (6th-8th) homeroom class that gives us a place to connect and belong. During this time we get academic support, lessons on OLAM values and have the opportunity to talk about regular topics of middle school life.
It’s one of our favorite times of day and one of the reasons we think it’s really easy to make friends here. Kavod feels like more of a family than my other school. When I came to Kavod, it was easy to make friends. I came in 4th grade from across the country. It was really easy to connect with people. Especially the teachers.
International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme
Dear Kavod Explorers,
As a 6th grader, we get to begin the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. We are so lucky to be enrolled at Kavod, where only 1 of 4 schools in San Diego offers the program. We’re set apart from other schools in the college admissions process because colleges around the world recognize this program as more rigorous compared to other traditional schools. We also have preference to IB high schools and we are better prepared for high school challenges.
Enrichments, Electives & Clubs
Dear 4th & 5th Graders,
There are so many great clubs at Kavod once you get to middle school. If you’re interested in exploring a new interest like Journalism, Band, LGBTQ+, Yearbook or something you love – like theater or chess – this is the place for you.
When you start middle school, it’s all about finding who you are and having fun along the way! You get to choose from enrichments like coding, theater, social justice, gardening, photography, student council, entrepreneurship, debate, or yoga! It’s one of our favorite parts about going to middle school at Kavod!
