When it comes to your child’s education, making the right choice can feel overwhelming. From a traditional school to a charter to the hefty price tag of a private school, you want to make sure you are giving your child the very best. If you are new to the concept of charter schools, we want to share with you that the best school for your child might be right around the corner.

If you are looking for a school that nurtures independence and prepares your child for High School and College, then Kavod’s tuition-free charter school may be the right fit for your child. Kavod is open to TK-8th grade students with language learning opportunities, rigorous and enriching classes and an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) for middle school students.

What is a Charter School?

A charter school is a publicly funded, independently operated public school. Most charter schools are started from the ground up by a team of passionate educators and parents who see a need in the community and decide to fill it. Our small community school is no different. Kavod Charter School was started out of a desire to offer the San Diego community a tuition-free,  non-religious, Hebrew (and Spanish!) language learning in a school setting that raises the bar for student achievement and character.

Charter schools operate under a contract between the school and the state government that outlines how the school will educate students in exchange for public funds. A charter school’s authorization is renewed every five years based on agreed upon expectations for educating students, including state standards and testing. Our explorers participate in California state testing and regularly meet and exceed the average in reading and math, placing Kavod as a top charter school

Tuition-Free Language Learning

Charter schools create choice for families, increasing educational opportunities and giving children more access to quality education. At Kavod Charter School, learning the Modern Hebrew language is essential to our mission. We believe it not only has immeasurable academic benefits, like increased memory and focus, but also opens doors to a world of career and travel opportunities. As a Seal of Biliteracy pathway school, Kavod offers elementary students daily Hebrew language lessons that are engaging and primed for young minds. Our middle school students continue to learn Hebrew and they are also offered Spanish instruction.

Charter schools are often centered around a focus or specialized offering that unites the whole school community. Free to choose their best path to success, charters can be an exciting hub of innovation and creativity. Highly qualified teachers are often attracted to work at charter schools for a chance to teach in a less restrictive way, with greater creative freedom, or with like-minded teachers and staff.

Kavod Charter School offers San Diego families an innovative and balanced approach to developing global citizens. In addition to our robust PE, music, art and Hebrew language learning, Kavod elementary explorers thrive using a workshop model for reading and writing. Rigorous math instruction grows problem solving and critical thinking skills. At the middle school level, Kavod utilizes the world renowned IB MYP to develop curious, knowledgeable and empathetic individuals who strive to create a better world.

If you are seeking a school in San Diego that has dual language learning, global awareness, a robust well-balanced program, and joyful learning – then look no further. Kavod Charter School invites you to join us in helping your child reach their full potential. We are tuition-free and now enrolling TK-8 for the 24-25 school year.
